Small Steps 102

On Tuesday November 12th and November 19th, 2024, from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM, we will be hosting our Small Steps 102 at The Arc of King County, 660 SW 39th St #205, Renton, WA 98057.

Small Steps 102 are evidenced based classes that teaches parents valuable parenting skills and offers an arena for parents to build community with each other. In addition, Small Steps 102 is based on Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBI).

We are honored to have Ms. Thu-Van as our instructor. She came to the United States from VietNam in June 1975 as a refugee. She wasted little time in embracing her new home and attended and graduated from Gonzaga University in 1979. Ms.Thu-Van spent decades working in Seattle supporting the language access cause. She worked as a Healthcare Outreach Worker at the Indochinese Language Bank. She was the Medical Interpreter Service Coordinator at Pacific Medical Center and a Cultural and Language Access Coordinator at Mediala Healthcare. Her recent work was Parent Support Specialist with Children Youth Family at Asian Counseling Referral Service. She and her mother are co-founders of Refugee Woman’s Alliance (ReWa).

We have limited space and registration is required. No registration fee, funded by Dan Thompson Memorial Grant.

Christmas Celebration

VFAAB is thrilled to invite all families to our Christmas Celebration! Join us on December 7th, 2024 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Rainier Avenue Church, 5900 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA 98118 for an evening filled with joy, festive activities, and delicious treats. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other families in our community and celebrate the holiday spirit together. There will be fun for all ages, including games, music, and raffle for kids to receive gifts from SANTA CLAUS.

October Monthly Family Meeting Support

On Wednesday October 16th, 2024, we will be hosting the October Monthly Family Support Meeting on Zoom from 4:00pm- 5:30pm with Rachel Nemhauser.

This month we are honored to have Rachel share with us about Guardianship.

Rachel has been an active member of the disability community since 2009, and is passionate about disability advocacy, and supporting families through all the joys and challenges of raising their children. She is a former two-term member of the Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council and has worked at The Arc of King County since 2015. She is currently the Director of Information and Family Support at The Arc and has worked with hundreds of families as they navigate complex systems, advocate for their sons and daughters, and learn to support their children as people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community. Rachel is also the parent of a 20-year-old autistic son, and feels strongly about self-determination and the importance of amplifying the voices of marginalized and underserved individuals.

This is a friendly reminder that VFAAB has monthly virtual meetings every 3rd Wednesday of the month from 4:00-5:30 PM. These meetings are for Vietnamese families with children with Autism/Developmental Delays to build community, learn about Autism and the services available, and share their learned experiences.  We invite a guest speaker to come speak and Vietnamese interpretation is provided.

SEPTEMBER Monthly FAMILY Support Meeting

TOPIC: Powerful Partnerships: Families, Communities, and Educators

On Wednesday September 18th, 2024, we will be hosting the September Monthly Family Support Meeting on Zoom from 4:00pm - 5:30pm with Danielle Eidenberg!

This month we are honored to have Danielle Eidenberg share with us about the powerful partnerships among families, communities and educators. Danielle is a Senior Education Ombuds with the Office of the Education Ombuds (OEO). She has worked as a K-12 educator in Washington State for the last 30 years and has been with OEO since 2007.

In addition to a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis, Ms. Eidenberg received a Masters in Teaching (with endorsements in English Language Learning (ELL), Cultural Anthropology, English Language Arts and Elementary Education) from Seattle University. Ms. Eidenberg is also a Certified Parent Coach® having earned this certification through Seattle Pacific University's Parent Coaching Institute.

VFAAB - July Monthly Support Meeting

Today Wednesday, July 17, we will have a Monthly Family Support Meeting on Zoom from 4:00pm - 5:30pm with Noah Seidel!

This month we are honored to have Noah Seidel share with us about Developmental Disabilities Ombuds 101. Noah Seidel joined Disability Rights Washington in 2017 as the Region 3 Developmental Disabilities Ombuds. Noah Seidel is a self advocate who works to support people with disabilities to live a full life and engage in social change. He graduated from the University of Washington where he received a degree while majoring in Disability Studies, Political Science, and Comparative History of Ideas. We are fortunate to learn from him.
